Name of Magazine: Hooray For Hollywood, named after the song with the same name.
Concept - "Hooray For Hollywood" is a magazine that discusses past, present, and future movies in Hollywood. "Hooray For Hollywood" will be a monthly magazine with several double-issues during award shows. "Hooray For Hollywood" will contain information and facts about past and present movies. It will also have movie reviews about newly released movies. It will contain interviews with various actors and actresses, producers, directors, and composers. The magazine will also contain information about future movies in Hollywood, and production updates for these movies. "Hooray For Hollywood" will feature a small multi-page section dedicated to international movie reviews, foreign films.
With a subscription to "Hooray For Hollywood", the readers will receive a free online version where they can view all of the magazine's content, video interviews with the stars, crossword puzzles and other games, movie trailers, and behind the scenes videos. The online version is accessible to non-magazine subscribers for a monthly or annual fee. The online version has formats for the iPad, iPhone, Android phones and tablets, Sony E-Reader, Amazon Kindle, and Barnes and Noble Nook; however the Sony, Kindle, and Nook E-Readers only have ability to read the magazine.
Readers - This magazine will have a wide range of readers. The readers' age groups will be from 18 to 50. This magazine will include some uncensored comments from interviews that may not be appropriate for children under 18, also some of the accessible online video trailers may be too graphic for little children to access. This will not be a magazine which displays articles about sex, not gender, or any form of pornography. The age group is so large because this will be a magazine targeted at adults who enjoy movies and the film industry, it will have a lot of content, but also tons of pictures to attract young adults. Gender will be both male and female. This will be a multi-cultural magazine, so no one ethnicity will be targeted in this magazine. The income level for the average reader will include families in the middle to upper-middle class. This is not a magazine directed at upper class or the super wealthy, nor will this magazine be targeted at poor families. Nothing against poor families, our magazine is looking for people who are willing to go to the theaters regularly. The interests of the readers will obviously include film and the movies. This will not be a magazine with articles featuring actors and actresses drug addictions or prison time, and other similar stories.
Competition - I have not found too many magazine's that are similar to "Hooray For Hollywood". Most people are familiar with the weekly magazine, OK! Magazine and the bi-weekly magazine, Star. These are all gossip magazines which target women. As mentioned before "Hooray For Hollywood" will not feature any gossip in the articles, it will be an informative and factual publication. Then you look at magazine's such as, The Hollywood Scriptwriter, The Hollywood Reporter, American Cinematographer, BoxOffice Magazine, Cinema Journal, MovieMaker Magazine, and Filmmaker Magazine which are more business magazines targeting people who already work in the film industry as well as college professors and film majors. Although "Hooray For Hollywood" will have tons of stories, it will not be oriented to people who are in the film industry. After searching the internet and trying to find a magazine that is similar to what "Hooray For Hollywood" is trying to do, Entertainment Weekly seems to be the closest, however it is still vary different because Entertainment Weekly discusses the entertainment industry as a whole rather than focusing on the film industry. So from my research there is no magazine that targets a more general audience and focuses only on film.
Five Advertisers - movie theaters such as Cinemark Theaters and AMC theaters. Because our magazine is targeting people who will go to the theaters to watch new movies. The Academy of Art University, since the readers of this magazine will have an interest in film, they might consider studying film making and becoming a film maker for a career. Universal Studios and Disney Theme Parks, because the parks are oriented with the two film companies, people would most likely be interested in attending either of these parks to go for fun and take their families, if they have any. The film studios: Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, and the Disney film companies: Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Marvel Studios, Pixar Animation Studios. The various studios would primarily be advertising new and future movie advertisements. Walt Disney Pictures would probably do very little advertising because most of their films are children oriented, however they do have a select few movies that are viewed by adults, like Pirates of the Caribbean, that is why most of their advertisements will be from their other studios.
Five Articles included in the premier issue - The first article will be about the history of Hollywood. The second article included in the premier issue is going to be about the upcoming Academy Awards and the announcement of the award nominees. The third article included is going to be about the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth article featured will be about the differences between the new and old True Grit movies. The fifth article will be about Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, and its long journey from planned to several step backs and now beginning filming. The International section's article will be talking about the importance of international film, the article will interview director Quentin Tarantino and how international films inspired his work.
Cover of Premier Issue - The cover picture for the premier issue will feature one of the most iconic images in the film industry, Graumen's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The three main colors chosen were red for the red carpet, gold to symbol being rich not necessarily wealth, and black because it goes well with the others. The cover will always have the titles of the main articles in the magazine, however it will not have all of the main titles.
Each issue will feature the red, gold, and black colors. The picture will always be different, ranging from filming locations, actors, directors, and movie posters.
Our magazines would make great companion pieces.
