As I was growing up I never really enjoyed reading books. The only time I really ever read was when I would be assigned a book to read during school. I think the reason I did not enjoy reading is because my teachers never really selected books I was interested in. It was not until high school that I began to enjoy reading books. I am still not a big book reader, but the books that I do enjoy are autobiographies and biographies. My favorite books are: "I Never Had it Made", "The Lord of the Rings", and "Cry, The Beloved Country".
I am honestly a pretty big newspaper reader. Ever since middle school I have read the San Jose Mercury News mostly reading the sports page. There are literally only a few times a year that I read another section of the paper; but if I do read any other sections they are: the first page of the paper and technology. Besides the Mercury, my favorite newspaper that I read quite a bit online is the OC Register, which is a newspaper out of Orange County.
I have been a magazine subscriber since I was an elementary school student, starting with Sports Illustrated for Kids. As I grew older I cancelled my subscription to become a subscriber to Sports Illustrated. I would anticipate receiving the latest SI magazine and read it as soon as I walked inside my house. Just a few years ago, after 6 years of SI, I subscribed to ESPN The Magazine because I grew tired of Sports Illustrated's articles about Giants' slugger Barry Bonds. I was also a subscriber to both Import Tuner and Car and Driver
I am a huge movie fan. Ever since I was little I was captivated by the colors and images of Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons. As I grew older I appreciated more and more styles of film including: Computer Generated Animation especially Pixar Studios films and live action films. I also enjoy a wide spread genre of films: family, comedy, documentary, action and adventure, and westerns. I am not a big fan of foreign films to be honest, it is not that I think they are bad films because there are some good ones out there, but most of the time I watch films when I am relaxing and I do not like having to read the screen. I am also not a fan of horror films, I do not think most horror films have great story lines and scripts, they are just quick money making films. My favorite films are: The Lord of the Rings, Chinatown, Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Bonnie and Clyde, and Dark Knight.
When it comes to musical recordings, that is a big part of my life. I have owned an iPod ever since middle school, currently I own the iPod touch. I have purchased over $200 worth of MP3 recordings, and I do not even know how many compact discs I own. I usually listen to recordings when I wake up in the morning having my iPod act as my alarm, and I go to school listening to my iPod.
I have always listened to the radio. I listen to the radio when I am in the car, and occasionally on the web. Most radio stations that I listen to are either sports talk or hip-hop. Although when I turn on my computer I usually tune in to Hawaiian or Los Angeles sports talk. There are a few reasons why I do not listen to the radio as much as my iPod or a compact disc, they are because the radio is not a clear sound quality wise and when listening to music on the internet, many times stations cut out.
Television is a form of media that I should probably watch much less of, but I tend to watch way too much of. As mentioned before, when I was little I would watch Disney and Warner Brother cartoons Then as I went through middle school and early high school I would watch MTV every day after school. I am a huge sports fan. My favorite channels on TV are: ESPN, Comcast Sports Net, and what ever channel is showing a game that is interesting to me. As in one week I probably watch about 25 hours per week of sporting events.
The internet is the form of media I spend the most on. I did not really start using the internet until about fourth grade at my elementary school. At home I originally did not spend much time on the internet or computer in general. It was not until senior year of high school in 2008 that I spent a lot of time on the internet, I did not get a computer till then. Ever since I got my laptop, I have spent about 4 hours per day on the internet, doing various things from: email, social networking sites, sports news websites, reading online newspapers, watching youtube.com, and doing most of my homework online.
This is my final year at De Anza, after completion of this year I plan to transfer to UCLA and study Film. I am planning on majoring in animation, but I am still considering directing and producing.
