Name of Magazine: Hooray For Hollywood, named after the song with the same name.
Concept - "Hooray For Hollywood" is a magazine that discusses past, present, and future movies in Hollywood. "Hooray For Hollywood" will be a monthly magazine with several double-issues during award shows. "Hooray For Hollywood" will contain information and facts about past and present movies. It will also have movie reviews about newly released movies. It will contain interviews with various actors and actresses, producers, directors, and composers. The magazine will also contain information about future movies in Hollywood, and production updates for these movies. "Hooray For Hollywood" will feature a small multi-page section dedicated to international movie reviews, foreign films.
With a subscription to "Hooray For Hollywood", the readers will receive a free online version where they can view all of the magazine's content, video interviews with the stars, crossword puzzles and other games, movie trailers, and behind the scenes videos. The online version is accessible to non-magazine subscribers for a monthly or annual fee. The online version has formats for the iPad, iPhone, Android phones and tablets, Sony E-Reader, Amazon Kindle, and Barnes and Noble Nook; however the Sony, Kindle, and Nook E-Readers only have ability to read the magazine.
Readers - This magazine will have a wide range of readers. The readers' age groups will be from 18 to 50. This magazine will include some uncensored comments from interviews that may not be appropriate for children under 18, also some of the accessible online video trailers may be too graphic for little children to access. This will not be a magazine which displays articles about sex, not gender, or any form of pornography. The age group is so large because this will be a magazine targeted at adults who enjoy movies and the film industry, it will have a lot of content, but also tons of pictures to attract young adults. Gender will be both male and female. This will be a multi-cultural magazine, so no one ethnicity will be targeted in this magazine. The income level for the average reader will include families in the middle to upper-middle class. This is not a magazine directed at upper class or the super wealthy, nor will this magazine be targeted at poor families. Nothing against poor families, our magazine is looking for people who are willing to go to the theaters regularly. The interests of the readers will obviously include film and the movies. This will not be a magazine with articles featuring actors and actresses drug addictions or prison time, and other similar stories.
Competition - I have not found too many magazine's that are similar to "Hooray For Hollywood". Most people are familiar with the weekly magazine, OK! Magazine and the bi-weekly magazine, Star. These are all gossip magazines which target women. As mentioned before "Hooray For Hollywood" will not feature any gossip in the articles, it will be an informative and factual publication. Then you look at magazine's such as, The Hollywood Scriptwriter, The Hollywood Reporter, American Cinematographer, BoxOffice Magazine, Cinema Journal, MovieMaker Magazine, and Filmmaker Magazine which are more business magazines targeting people who already work in the film industry as well as college professors and film majors. Although "Hooray For Hollywood" will have tons of stories, it will not be oriented to people who are in the film industry. After searching the internet and trying to find a magazine that is similar to what "Hooray For Hollywood" is trying to do, Entertainment Weekly seems to be the closest, however it is still vary different because Entertainment Weekly discusses the entertainment industry as a whole rather than focusing on the film industry. So from my research there is no magazine that targets a more general audience and focuses only on film.
Five Advertisers - movie theaters such as Cinemark Theaters and AMC theaters. Because our magazine is targeting people who will go to the theaters to watch new movies. The Academy of Art University, since the readers of this magazine will have an interest in film, they might consider studying film making and becoming a film maker for a career. Universal Studios and Disney Theme Parks, because the parks are oriented with the two film companies, people would most likely be interested in attending either of these parks to go for fun and take their families, if they have any. The film studios: Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, and the Disney film companies: Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Marvel Studios, Pixar Animation Studios. The various studios would primarily be advertising new and future movie advertisements. Walt Disney Pictures would probably do very little advertising because most of their films are children oriented, however they do have a select few movies that are viewed by adults, like Pirates of the Caribbean, that is why most of their advertisements will be from their other studios.
Five Articles included in the premier issue - The first article will be about the history of Hollywood. The second article included in the premier issue is going to be about the upcoming Academy Awards and the announcement of the award nominees. The third article included is going to be about the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The fourth article featured will be about the differences between the new and old True Grit movies. The fifth article will be about Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, and its long journey from planned to several step backs and now beginning filming. The International section's article will be talking about the importance of international film, the article will interview director Quentin Tarantino and how international films inspired his work.
Cover of Premier Issue - The cover picture for the premier issue will feature one of the most iconic images in the film industry, Graumen's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The three main colors chosen were red for the red carpet, gold to symbol being rich not necessarily wealth, and black because it goes well with the others. The cover will always have the titles of the main articles in the magazine, however it will not have all of the main titles.
Each issue will feature the red, gold, and black colors. The picture will always be different, ranging from filming locations, actors, directors, and movie posters.

Books
I will admit I am not a huge book reader. Every once in a while I will read a book that is not required in a class.
There have been a few books I have read that have impacted my life.
One of the books I read that influenced me was, "The Pixar Treasures", the book is done in a scrap book design with historical descriptions about Pixar Animation Studios and its founding animators. It shows pictures from all of Pixar's films. This book is inspirational to me because it was not until reading and looking at this book that I realized I wanted to go into the film industry and study animation in college.
The second book I read that influenced me was, Paul Giannetti's "Understanding Movies, 11th Edition". The book was actually my Introduction to Film class text book. This book talks about the many different aspects of a film and understanding those aspects better. This book is inspirational to me because it has given me an even larger appreciation for film, and now after reading the book I have become interested in Directing as well as animation.
The next book that has been influential to me is Coach John Wooden and Jay Carty's "Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success". The book is about Coach Wooden's Pyramid which helped build his basketball dynasty and prepare his players for life without basketball. This book is inspirational to me because besides wanting to study film, I am also interested in becoming a basketball coach, I am a high school varsity basketball coach now, Coach Wooden's book has taught me the many ways to be successful in life and make the most of what you have. I think this book will also help me as a coach understand my players and better bond with them.

Media Impact
Exactly one week ago today, was the Tuscon, Arizona shooting. Where 19 people were shot, 6 of the 19 died. After remember the Tuscon shooting, I remembered the Virginia Tech Massacre in April of 2007. Where Seung-Hui Cho, a Virginia Tech Senior Undergraduate student killed 32 people, shot 25 others, and later committed suicide. I still remember this event because as a sports fan who watches college football and basketball every Saturday, Virginia Tech has always been considered one of the top football schools in the country.
According to one of Cho's former classmates, the media showing the Columbine High School Massacre seemed to have a great affect on Cho. Cho's former classmate stated that when Cho got an F in his Spanish class, he wrote "F you all" on his binder, referring to Society (http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=3541157&page=2). Cho sent a package of material to NBC with pictures of himself and several notes, in these notes Cho glorified Eric and Dylan the two shooters at columbine, and it was reported that he wrote a paper in high school stating how Columbine inspired him and he stated he wanted to repeat it (http://articles.latimes.com/2007/aug/31/nation/na-vatech31).
Dr Phil McGraw told Larry King on CNN that he believes Video Games were to blame for Cho's actions at Virginia Tech. Stating that violent video games encourage mass murders, and these video games triggered Cho's emotions, no pun intended (http://n4g.com/news/35531/dr-phil-blames-video-games-for-virginia-tech-massacre).
"The American Chronicle" states that the media's glorification of murders gave Cho a motive, a loner seeking attention (http://n4g.com/news/35531/dr-phil-blames-video-games-for-virginia-tech-massacre).
The New York times wrote an article shortly after the Virginia Tech Massacre, it pointed out that one of Cho's pictures where Cho is wielding a hammer is similar to a 2003 Korean film, "Oldboy". The movie is a Korean adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, bloody revenge tragedy about a boy who falls in love with a girl. The boy like Cho, is a disturbed outcast. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/23/movies/23movi.html)

Media Autobiography
As I was growing up I never really enjoyed reading books. The only time I really ever read was when I would be assigned a book to read during school. I think the reason I did not enjoy reading is because my teachers never really selected books I was interested in. It was not until high school that I began to enjoy reading books. I am still not a big book reader, but the books that I do enjoy are autobiographies and biographies. My favorite books are: "I Never Had it Made", "The Lord of the Rings", and "Cry, The Beloved Country".
I am honestly a pretty big newspaper reader. Ever since middle school I have read the San Jose Mercury News mostly reading the sports page. There are literally only a few times a year that I read another section of the paper; but if I do read any other sections they are: the first page of the paper and technology. Besides the Mercury, my favorite newspaper that I read quite a bit online is the OC Register, which is a newspaper out of Orange County.
I have been a magazine subscriber since I was an elementary school student, starting with Sports Illustrated for Kids. As I grew older I cancelled my subscription to become a subscriber to Sports Illustrated. I would anticipate receiving the latest SI magazine and read it as soon as I walked inside my house. Just a few years ago, after 6 years of SI, I subscribed to ESPN The Magazine because I grew tired of Sports Illustrated's articles about Giants' slugger Barry Bonds. I was also a subscriber to both Import Tuner and Car and Driver
I am a huge movie fan. Ever since I was little I was captivated by the colors and images of Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons. As I grew older I appreciated more and more styles of film including: Computer Generated Animation especially Pixar Studios films and live action films. I also enjoy a wide spread genre of films: family, comedy, documentary, action and adventure, and westerns. I am not a big fan of foreign films to be honest, it is not that I think they are bad films because there are some good ones out there, but most of the time I watch films when I am relaxing and I do not like having to read the screen. I am also not a fan of horror films, I do not think most horror films have great story lines and scripts, they are just quick money making films. My favorite films are: The Lord of the Rings, Chinatown, Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Bonnie and Clyde, and Dark Knight.
When it comes to musical recordings, that is a big part of my life. I have owned an iPod ever since middle school, currently I own the iPod touch. I have purchased over $200 worth of MP3 recordings, and I do not even know how many compact discs I own. I usually listen to recordings when I wake up in the morning having my iPod act as my alarm, and I go to school listening to my iPod.
I have always listened to the radio. I listen to the radio when I am in the car, and occasionally on the web. Most radio stations that I listen to are either sports talk or hip-hop. Although when I turn on my computer I usually tune in to Hawaiian or Los Angeles sports talk. There are a few reasons why I do not listen to the radio as much as my iPod or a compact disc, they are because the radio is not a clear sound quality wise and when listening to music on the internet, many times stations cut out.
Television is a form of media that I should probably watch much less of, but I tend to watch way too much of. As mentioned before, when I was little I would watch Disney and Warner Brother cartoons Then as I went through middle school and early high school I would watch MTV every day after school. I am a huge sports fan. My favorite channels on TV are: ESPN, Comcast Sports Net, and what ever channel is showing a game that is interesting to me. As in one week I probably watch about 25 hours per week of sporting events.
The internet is the form of media I spend the most on. I did not really start using the internet until about fourth grade at my elementary school. At home I originally did not spend much time on the internet or computer in general. It was not until senior year of high school in 2008 that I spent a lot of time on the internet, I did not get a computer till then. Ever since I got my laptop, I have spent about 4 hours per day on the internet, doing various things from: email, social networking sites, sports news websites, reading online newspapers, watching youtube.com, and doing most of my homework online.
This is my final year at De Anza, after completion of this year I plan to transfer to UCLA and study Film. I am planning on majoring in animation, but I am still considering directing and producing.
